Creality is a Chinese company that offers at modest prices solid printers, well designed and with quality components, and among all its products the CR 10 is definitely the spearhead.
What made Creality so successful is the CR 10, and there are many reasons for this.
The first one is that the CR 10 is presented and “priced” as a KIT but KIT is not! From the moment of arrival you can get up and running in 15 minutes, 4 screws on the chassis, connect endstops and motors and you’re ready to go! I bought my CR 10 at Gearbest. From the moment of the order I counted 15 days and this beauty showed up at my door, without adding any additional customs fees or any other duty.
By opening the package you will find everything you need to begin to delve into the 3d print, . In fact, the printer arrives, is to be assembled, but is divided into only two parts. The kit inside is really rich:
- 500g PLA filament random color (mostly white);
- Classic cutter;
- Micro SD 8gb;
- USB and SD adapters;
- Various hexagonal and non-hexagonal Keys;
- Glass 31×31 cm stopped with 4 clips;
- Filament coil holder (to be mounted above the electronics box);
- A nozzle and a spare Teflon tube;
However, if you want to have all the equipment available to deal with the best 3d printing, you can refer to this article. Where are indicated all the necessary tools!
CR-10 by Creality: First Impressions
I’ve got the printer up and running, no rush, in about 20 minutes. After joining the 2 parts, putting the reinforcements and made some very simple and intuitive connection the machine is ready to print. To be clear, the instructions I always used to build the kits were small books, the instructions this time were 8 steps, divided on 2 sides! Forget hours and hours spent assembling and calibrating the printer, as it is divided into two parts. The lower one already has the plate mounted (already with the glass!), and the upper one with the trolley and the extruder with Bowden system and then with separate motor. The whole structure is made entirely of metal, which guarantees robustness and absence of vibrations.
As I like to test what I buy I didn’t spare even this latest arrival. As a first test I wanted to use a filament I had at home, not sublime that extrudes with effort. The CR-10 did not hesitate and produced beautiful and precise prints.
Obviously the first print was the typical calibration cube and I must say that I did not expect this degree of precision “just out of the box”.
I wanted to test the machine again by printing a small vice, to verify also the level of robustness of the extrudate, and here too the test was passed with full marks.
Then convinced of the potential of this CR-10 I did the test par excellence of the bowden, the hell of the retractions! And even in this case I was not able to put it in crisis. The printing of this object, without any sign of stringing and without errors of any kind has definitely convinced me to have purchased a large printer, which will fill me with satisfaction!
CR-10 by Creality: Electronics
Another thing that I liked and that will probably appeal to all newbies who want to buy this machine is the fact that it requires no electronic expertise. In other KITs we have to make the connections ourselves on the motherboard, and although it is not difficult it is still possible to make mistakes and create serious damage and therefore source of anxiety! I still remember the trepidations at the first start of my first car printer built. I don’t think it’s part of the positive anxiety, so welcome plug and play!
In addition to connecting motors, endstops and electricity you just have to install the convenient filament holder and that’s it!
The printer is controlled by the display, which contains in a menu all the functions of the printer. I’m not a fan of the control wheel in all Creality printers, I find it uncomfortable and not very fast, but it’s my whim, easily submerged by all the points in favor.
CR 10 by Creality: Versions
The reviewed version, even if I have not yet specified it is the standard, so with a single bar for the zeta, an option in the enhanced version CR-10S.
The choice to take the base has been wanted, and I would like to explain the reasons for my choice.
Mainly I can say that I don’t like having 2 motors in parallel for the movement on the z axis, so I’m studying a solution to transform the CR-10 into CR-10S with a minimum expense and effort.
Besides this first difference we find the CR-10 in 4 sizes, and in total 5 models.
As you can see they can be found for any size requirement of the dish.
An unexpected quality of construction, ease of assembly and, in general, intuitiveness of the operations to be carried out. I didn’t think, with all the printers that passed through my hands, that I would still be so fascinated by a machine. Perhaps the right word to describe the relationship that has existed since the beginning is feeling. Feeling is when you understand each other, and this printer does nothing it shouldn’t do. Without having touched the retraction parameters it leaves no wires, it does nothing unexpected or inexplicable. Print and do it right from the start.
