Some time ago, on Valentine’s Day, I happened to failed to print small details of these roses.
Objectively, the rendering of the design was excellent and I came up with the idea of producing a few smaller ones, to decorate the gift packages.
Immediately came up against some physical limits that I did not interpret in the best possible way.
I failed the first prints because the petals of these roses are designed to be printed with a nozzle of 0.4 mm. I reduced the model to 50% and the same 0.4 mm nozzle was too big to print some parts. The result was a defeat. The basic rule is that the extrusion width must always be greater than or equal to the size of the nozzle we are using.
The slicer program, when analyzing the design, if it finds a part of the design thinner than the diameter of the extruder eliminates it, not taking it into account for printing.
Print small details: After analysing these problems, I have come up with some solutions that I propose to you.
The first and simplest is: I need to extrude a thin line, I use a thin nozzle.
Just changing the nozzle from 0.4 mm to 0.3 mm allowed me to finish the job.
Having different nozzle sizes (basic 0.3 mm, 0.4 mm and 0.5 mm) available is a good rule of thumb.
Even if you want to intervene as little as possible on the printer sometimes the change of nozzle can allow you to print much smaller things. Or through larger nozzles to print the same model much faster.
An equally valid solution is to redesign the model, where skill allows it.
With enough skill we can scale and iron only the smallest elements and get to finish the print.

If the two solutions proposed above do not clutter us because too complicated or long we can implement a stratagem that could work.
You can reduce the line size (and therefore the nozzle size) from a slicer to the desired size.
Then set the line width to 0.3/0.35 mm while having the nozzle of 0.4mm.
This procedure will tell the program that you have changed the nozzle. Even if you haven’t done so, and it will process lines as thin as your indication.
We know for sure that with the 0.4 mm nozzle, printing at 0.35 mm does not cause any defects.
When we go to 0.3 mm it is likely to run into some consequence. So it will be good to keep an eye on the print to verify live that the print quality remains acceptable.
